Terms & conditions
Last updated 3 October 2026
The short version: stay behind the barriers, respect the riders and the crew, ride and play Wake Run at your own risk, and enjoy the show.
About these terms
Malta Wake Show is organised by Santa Maria Watersports, Malta (“we”, “us”). These terms apply to this website, to the Wake Run game, to buying a ticket, to attending the event at Dock No.1, Cospicua, and to registering as a rider. By buying a ticket, entering the venue, signing up to ride or playing Wake Run, you accept them.
Tickets & entry
- Tickets are personal, valid for the date shown and may not be resold above face value.
- Bags may be checked at the entrance. We may refuse entry to, or remove, anyone who is unsafe, under the influence or breaks these terms, without a refund.
- Tickets for a leisure event on a set date carry no 14-day right of withdrawal (Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU, Art. 16(l)).
Programme, weather & cancellation
Wakeboarding depends on wind, sea state and safety. We may change the running order, pause or shorten the show, swap riders or move activities at any time. This does not entitle you to a refund.
If the event is cancelled in full before it starts, you can choose a refund of the ticket price or a ticket for the new date. We do not cover travel, accommodation or other costs.
Attending as a spectator
The show takes place on a working waterfront. Please be aware of the risks: open quay edges and deep water, wet and slippery surfaces, uneven historic ground, spray and wake from boats and riders, loud music, large crowds and strong sun. To keep everyone safe you must:
- Stay behind barriers and out of marked riding, landing and rope zones. Never sit on or lean over the quay edge.
- Not enter the water, and not climb on the stage, structures, lighting or boats.
- Keep children under 16 with you and supervised at all times. Parents and guardians are responsible for them.
- Follow instructions from crew, security, police and emergency services straight away.
- Drink water, use sun protection, consider ear protection (especially for children) and report any hazard or incident to crew.
Riding at your own risk
Wakeboarding is an extreme sport with inherent risks that care cannot fully remove, including falls, hard impact with the water, kickers and sliders, the tow rope, boats, collisions, near-drowning and serious injury. If you sign up to ride, you accept these risks and take part entirely at your own risk and responsibility.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Malta Wake Show, Santa Maria Watersports and their partners cannot be held liable for any accident, injury or damage that results from those inherent risks while you ride or take part in water activities.
Rider requirements
- Sign the registration form and waiver, and give honest information about your level and health.
- Be able to swim, be fit to ride, and not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Wear the helmet and approved buoyancy aid we provide, and follow every briefing and signal.
- Riders under 18 need written consent from a parent or guardian, who must stay on site.
- We may stop anyone from riding at any time for safety reasons. Our decision is final.
- Towing is done only by licensed crew, in line with the Small Ships Regulations (S.L. 499.52).
Health, first aid & insurance
First aid is available on site. If you are injured or unwell, you agree that our crew may give first aid and call emergency services. We do not pay for medical treatment, ambulance transport or repatriation, so we strongly recommend personal accident and travel insurance (and an EHIC card for EU visitors), especially for riders.
Our liability
You attend, ride and play at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Santa Maria Watersports, Malta Wake Show and their directors, staff, crew, volunteers, contractors and partners are not liable for:
- Accidents, injury or loss that result from the inherent risks of the event, the water or the venue described above.
- Injury or loss that results from you ignoring these terms, safety signs or crew instructions.
- Loss of, theft of or damage to personal belongings, phones, cameras or vehicles.
- The actions of other visitors or third parties, or events outside our control.
- Activities, products or services provided by third parties (see below).
- Indirect or consequential loss. For other losses, our liability is limited to the price you paid.
Report any accident, injury or damage to our crew straight away, and to us in writing as soon as you can, so we can help and look into what happened.
If you contribute to your own injury or loss through imprudence or lack of attention, any compensation is reduced accordingly (Civil Code, Cap. 16, Art. 1051). Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our own negligence, for fraud or gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded under Maltese or EU law.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for any injury or damage you cause to other people, riders, equipment, boats or the venue (Civil Code, Cap. 16, Arts. 1031–1033), and for the children in your care.
Conduct & prohibited items
No glass, weapons, fireworks or flares, laser pointers, illegal substances, or animals other than assistance dogs. Private drones may not be flown over the venue or the water without our written permission and authorisation from Transport Malta. Violent, abusive or unsafe behaviour means removal without a refund.
Photos & filming
The event is filmed and photographed for promotion. By attending you may appear in that footage. We process it on the basis of our legitimate interest (GDPR, Art. 6(1)(f)). You can object at any time, as explained in our privacy statement.
Partners, suppliers & third parties
Food and drink stalls, sponsors' stands and activations, the after party, transport, and the owners and operators of the venue are run by independent third parties. Each of them is responsible for its own products, services, premises and staff, and their own terms apply. We are not liable for their acts or omissions.
Wake Run (online game)
Wake Run is a free game on this website. Playing it is entirely at your own risk and your own responsibility.
- Play only where it is safe to do so. Never play while driving, cycling or walking in traffic, near the quay edge or the water, or anywhere you need to pay attention to your surroundings.
- The game has fast motion, bright colours and flashing effects. If you have epilepsy or are sensitive to light or motion, check with a doctor before playing, and stop straight away if you feel unwell. Take regular breaks.
- The game is provided as it is, without any guarantee that it will be available, free of errors or suitable for your device. You are responsible for your device and for any data costs. We are not liable for damage to devices, lost scores or progress, or any loss that results from playing or not being able to play.
- Every score is checked by our server. We may correct or remove scores, and disqualify players, where we see cheating, manipulation, automated play, multiple accounts or a technical fault. We may change the game, its course and its scoring, or pause or end it, at any time.
- Anyone can play Wake Run and appear on the leaderboard, but only players who ticked “I'll be at Malta Wake Show and can collect a prize in person” before the leaderboard closed have the right to win and collect a prize. Prizes go to the highest-ranked of those players; players who did not tick it cannot claim a prize, whatever their rank.
- Prizes, and how to claim them, are as described on the prizes page when the leaderboard closes. They are personal, cannot be exchanged for cash or transferred, and may be replaced by a prize of similar value if needed. We contact winners by the email they saved their score with and may ask for photo ID to confirm who they are. A winner who does not reply in the time we give, or cannot attend, loses the prize, and it passes to the next eligible player on the leaderboard. Winners under 18 need the consent of a parent or guardian. Travel and other costs are not included. Prizes that involve the event or the water (such as VIP access or a wake surf session) are subject to these terms, including riding at your own risk.
- Our decision on scores, rankings and winners is final, to the extent permitted by law. How we use your nickname, email and scores is explained in our privacy statement.
Events beyond our control
We are not responsible for delays, changes or cancellation caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as severe weather, sea conditions, orders from authorities, public-health measures, strikes or power failures.
Website, law & disputes
